» I remember hearing about insurance companies raising rates, or even declining policies to people with "specific genes." Could storing my DNA cause problems with my insurance company? (Back)
Insurance companies in recent history, have denied coverage or hiked rates for the presence of "specific genes." For example, in the early 1970's, African Americans who carried the sickle cell anemia gene were forced to pay higher rates, or go uninsured because of their genes profile. Many of these people were not sick and would have never have become sick. They were still forced to pay higher rates because of their genetic profile. The collection kit that Affiliated Genetics offers, will be in your possession. The only way anyone will ever be able to examine the sample, is if you surrender the sample to them.
